Skyrim Dragon Shouts

December 8, 2011

Dragon Shouts can be very useful in the world of Skyrim. However, you first need to find them!

Ask Arngeir in High Hrothgar where the ‘Words of power’  are located. A new miscellaneous sidequest will be added to your journal.

After you have found the word of power for a shout, you need to ‘unlock’ it. For this, you need an absorbed dragon soul that you will get after killing a dragon.

Here is a list of the different Dragon Shouts: (warning: spoiler alerts after the ‘more’). continue reading…

Tips on followers

Followers in Skyrim can be very useful. Here are some tips on them:

You can provide them with better weapons and armor. However, they don’t always use the better weapons or wear the armor. For example, if a follower is specialised in light armor they usually will not wear heavy armor.

Is your inventory full and are you overencumbered? Drop the heavy stuff and ask your follower to pick it up. They will be able to carry enormous amounts that way.

When you are sneaking, it’s best to ask your follower to wait. It’s quite usual to see your follower sneak with heavy armor which will make enemies detect you. And often they will attack when you are not ready yet.

Sell any item to any merchant in Skyrim

November 26, 2011

Have you ever wanted to be able to just sell all your unwanted stuff to the same merchant, rather than having to walk around town finding every merchant possible? Or maybe just wanted to steal anything you feel like, without worrying about having to keep it for a long time only to get caught later to lose it?
Not everyone wants to actually spend perks in a skill with such limited use, or perhaps you just like roleplaying and consider your character isn’t really such a merchant as to have so many perks related.

Well, if any of the above is your case, then this is just the thing for you. It’s just a little Actor Value modification which won’t affect anything else than that (as far as I could test), and as such there’s no real file to download. You just need the ability to open the console. On it, there’s 2 lines you can write:

player.modav BypassVendorStolenCheck 1

This will let you sell stolen items to any merchant, still respecting what kind of item each merchant buys.

player.modav BypassVendorKeywordCheck 1

And this one will let you sell any non-stolen item to any merchant.
Simply enough, you just need to use both to be able to sell any item to any merchant at all. Of course, you still gotta be aware of how much money the merchant has.

Skyrim photography tips

November 25, 2011

There are a couple tips that help when trying to take “Photos” in Skyrim.

  1. Quickly remove HUD Open the in-game console by pressing ~ and then enter “tm” to turn menus off. Press ~ again to return to game. Menus are now off! Repeat to turn menus back on.
  2. Change “Lenses” Again, open the console by pressing ~. Now, we can change the Field Of View by using the command “fov x”, where x is a number. For example, “fov 15” gives you a “telephoto”, while “fov 140” gives you a fisheye. Default for the game is 70.
  3. Free Camera You can toggle “free camera” by opening console with ~ and typing “tfc”. This lets you move the camera wherever you want. Repeat to turn off.
  4. Waiting for the best light Quite obviously, you can press “T” in order to quickly get to sunrise/sunset or whatever other time of day you may want.
  5. Change the weather (thanks, EyeR8) sw – “Start Weather”, which will bring on the sequence of the current weather to the one specified (usage: sw (WeatherID), which for instance, sw c8220 will likely make a rainstorm form (though it may vanish quickly depending on which area of the game your in, due to the area’s climate being forced (like where rain isn’t common)) Also.. here’s a link to the weather commands. Helpful for when you want to setup a certain type of shot. Skyrim Weather IDs

The Loot Rule (get rich by looting)

What to loot, what not to loot, that’s the question. For my own game experience I figured out the following rule. When I loot a corpse or chest or just take something in Skyrim it must have a special purpose or a “weight to value ratio”. The latter one is done by a simple formula.

IF (item_value > (item_weight x 10)){ you loot this item! }ELSE{ you do not loot this item. }

We take a item as example: Iron sword of Looting. It weighs 11 KG and has a value of 150 gold. This is an item I WOULD loot. 11 x 10 = 110. So 150 (item value) is greater than the outcome, so I loot this item.

Another example: Wooden sword. It weighs 7 KG and has a value of 49 gold. This is an item I would NOT loot. 7 x 10 = 70. So 49 (item value) is smaller than the outcome, I leave this item since it does not meet my looting rule.

By this standard you can easily decide wich item to loot.

Too much loot 🙂

Azura’s Star, your permanent Soul Gem

November 24, 2011

Azura’s Star is probably the first Daedric artifact you want to get in Skyrim. The star that makes it thirds appearance in the Elder Scrolls serie (Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim) is similar to a Soul Gem but has a unique property: It will not be destroyed upon usage continue reading…

Magic Destruction guide

Here’s how to rock Destruction without even caring about your mana bar.

  • Buy the half casting cost perks for Novice through Master as available.
  • Get Dual-Casting and most important, Impact as fast as possible.
  • Choose one (your favorite) branch of Fire/Ice/Shock to follow.

Fire spells do great damage, but the travel time of the bolts is slow enough to make it prone to missing the target if you fight at range. Fireball is great for aoe on multiple targets. Frost is also great on multiple targets but has even slower movement time. This is sometimes handy as enemies who don’t move out of it will get hit multiple times and take even more damage. Frost is aces for close quarters combat with multiple foes.

Lightning is my favorite because it will instantly strike your targets at good distance, making it the easiest to snipe with if you like to stay hidden. Even arrows have a flight time – lightning does not. There’s no better way to get a dragon’s attention than blasting it out of the air with ease. For some reason lightning doesn’t break sneak unless the targets are rather close to you – with a good sneak and Muffle, you can snipe with lightning from surprisingly large distances without worrying about the targets finding you.

Now for the unlimited mana…
